June 11, 2024
We are pleased to announce that the Château de Lunéville Museum in the Department of Meurthe-et-Moselle, France has acquired Brocas’s 1844 painting depicting the childhood of Valentin Jameray-Duval.
This painting was Brocas’s entry to the 1844 Paris Salon. Valentin Jameray-Duval was a key figure in the history of the Château de Lunéville in the early 18th century when Lorraine was an independent and sovereign duchy. Duke Léopold de Lorraine (1679-1729) played a major role in the life of Jameray-Duval, who became the castle’s librarian and one of the greatest minds of Enlightenment Lorraine. The painting will be exhibited at the château’s museum in a section dedicated to the sciences and philosophy under the Age of Enlightenment.
